My Seventh Race

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

This race was a little different. First, it was the last race of the season and
took place at the fairgrounds. Next, I was grouped in the under 13 Juniors.
Poor Taylor got into the 14 - 18 Juniors so he had to compete with all the
the older kids while Clayton and I got to race against the younger Juniors.
Usually we're all grouped together and all of us have to compete with the
older kids. I guess that was the good news (at least for me). The bad news
was that when I was going up the stairs, the handlebars of my bike smacked
me in the lip squishing it between the bars and my braces. It was blood city.
I couldn't breath too well because of all the blood in my mouth and my nose
was running. Nasty! I still got second (in my age group) though. Got some
cool prizes (gloves, CX tires, a water bottle and cage, and a cycling map that
my dad wanted). Afterwards Dad took us to Taquaria Santa Cruz (one of his
favorite places) where we had burritos. Oh another thing... Spencer even
came to the race. He brought his new bike. He had to leave early though. He
had soccer practice.

Here we are just before the start.

And we're off!

Jessie getting going again after crossing the barriers.

Tryin' find that damn pedal.

Brian crossing those same barriers.

This was Brian's first CX race on his new bike which is exactly the same as dad's new bike.

Taylor jammin' over the barriers for the first of many times.

Here I come!

I was still doing okay here. But right after this picture, I mashed my lip while going up the stairs.

Jessie charging up the hill.

See my lip! Not feelin' too good here. I hate these braces!

My brother Spencer showing us his new bike. Me in the background.

My mom.

Clayton banking into the curve.

Me after my second trip through the mud.

Hi Dad! How much longer? My lip hurts!

My mom and Patti (Taylor's mom).

Taylor sloshing through the mud.

Me sloshing throught the mud.

Going up that damn run-up again.

This sucks!

Taylor bounding over the barriers.

Here I am charging at the barriers with the finish line in sight.

Last time.

Nasty! The blood all washed off though. It was worse before.

Spency!

I got second in my age group. I'm number 403.
