CCCX 5 - 1/9/05
My sixth race of the season

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

It was cold and wet today and the course was really muddy with a big puddle at the bottom of a hill. But at least is wasn't raining. This course has been jinxed for me. Everytime I race it I have some kind of equipment failure. I was determined to break the jinx today and I did!

Prestart... chatting with Taylor

Taylor digging in at the start. He took off really fast!

Coach Jessie slamming through the puddle.

I didn't know whether it was faster going through the puddle or around it. Here I try going through it.

Going into the puddle, you just don't know if you're going to come out as Taylor demonstrates...

Ray attacking a corner...

Coach Jessie weaving through the bike eating ice plant.

Go around the ice plant or go through it? Here I am going through it.

Taylor tried going around it.

Steep hill then these barriers... Oy! This was a real lung burning part of the course. We all hated it.

Crossing the start/finish on my second lap.

It's getting harder to look cheerful.

Coach Jessie going wider around the ice plant this time.

Not much further...

Tim putting on a charge.

Taylor on the attack.

Tim was really good at taking the barriers. You can see my head behind him.

Only one time more through this torture chamber...

I don't know this guy but he's a monster. Dad took his picture.

Coach Jessie trying a different approach to taking the puddle.

I'm so wet and muddy now that I don't care. This was my last time through here.

Taylor trying to go straight through.

Hmmmm..... Is it over? Can I open my eyes yet?

Taylor in the barriers. Almost done.

Here we are coated in mud. Sure glad that's over. Only one race to go for this season. Then I get to sleep in on Sundays again. That is unless everyone talks me into this mountain bike racing stuff.
