Summary

A first this year for us is that we got to take a vacation where we sailed/cruised together as a family. I can't describe how good this was. See the pictures in our vacation section. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity. Unfortunately, one week just wasn't enough so next year we're going for the burn with two weeks.

The boys are very active in their different pursuits. Jack has become quite active as a cyclist (unicycle, mountain and cyclo-cross). Many times we want to close our eyes when he shows us something new. Jack also is an amazing student. I am frequently startled with his diligence. I certainly wasn't like that when I was his age. This can't be my genetic material at work here. Spencer is no slouch in school either. He has been working very hard and we're proud of his math skills. This has been quite rewarding for us as parents. Of course I don't take any of the credit. It's all Donna. The boys are almost a constant joy. I don't feel worthy to have such wonderful children.

It's been a great year for us team-wise. The teams that we've been on have certainly done well. It's almost embarrassing. Specifically Spencer's baseball and soccer teams have all either won their season or gone on to win the championship. And Larry has had the good fortune of being with winning sailing programs. No guilt here though because we've all paid our dues on teams with less stellar records.

Donna is still plodding along in school. The end is in sight. I'm sure that she's looking forward to the finish line. Her Avon pursuits continue to provide her with a creative outlet. Sometimes I almost envy her customers. I have been enjoying her industriousness and creativity. She always amazes me.

I have had an exciting and challenging year at HP. It's been good but sphincter puckering. In addition I have been exploring web design and web site promotion as a hobby. I have had some wonderful opportunities in that area and hope that maybe someday I can develop the necessary skills to expand this into a second career. But if not, I'm still having fun. Unfortunately, my athletic endeavors haven't been going as well. I'm starting to feel my age and it's become clear that I'm wearing out. Swimming has taken it in the teeth due to my ongoing shoulder issues. I don't get to swim that much anymore. I miss my friends at the pool. Cycling is spotty and doesn't offer the same joys. Different ones though. Maybe I can grow that. I hope that the coming year sees an improvement for me in both these areas. Sailing has been good but I'm beginning to feel like I'm getting close to end of career. Might end up switching to cruising though.

December 29th   The family visits Monterey Aquarium. Poor timing on our part because it was incredibly crowded during the Christmas holidays. Since we're locals, there's no reason why we can't do this at a time when it's less crowded. We saw the Great White shark. Even though it's been raining a lot recently, it was gorgeous while we were in Monterey.

December 24th   Mrs. Claus visits our house. We attend midnight mass.

December 18th   Cyclesport puts Spencer's bike together. Now we have four bikes in the family and no excuse not to go riding together.
December 11th Larry gives up on his dream of owning a Santa Cruz Blur (no money), breaks down and buys a Specialized Stumpjumper Comp instead. It's still the nicest mountain bike that I've ever ridden.

Beginning of December Launch the Fogfam domain and posted family website.

November We're trying to build a bike for Spencer and discover the frame that we were going to use (Jack's old Marin frame) had a crack in the head tube. So we ordered a Santa Cruz Chameleon frame for Spence.

November 26th

Went to Shakespear Santa Cruz's production of Princess and the Pea. It was great!

November More work travel for Larry, more cyclo-cross racing for Jack.

November Spencer's soccer season ends. Spencer's team... "Thunder" wins the season.

November 6th Joined crew of Sydney 38 Absolute 02 for the Winter season. First race of the season. We'll be doing the Golden Gate and I think, the Corinthian series.

October Larry starts traveling quite a bit for work. Mostly Mexico.

October Jack starts cyclo-cross racing. Larry and Jack build a cyclo-cross bike mostly out of scraps in the garage. Jack likes it.

Early October Last race (sailing) of the season for Dance Away. We were in first place going into the race and eeked out the win to take the season. We were invited but declined to race in the Champion of Champions Regatta.

Early October Both boys have their birthday parties. Jack's birthday is October 6th, Spencer's is October 11th. See pictures of both parties in the boyze's pages.

September (actually late August) School starts again. Ouch!

August Generally a Lazy time for the Fogelquist family. I love the "dog days of Summer". Larry and Jack were doing a lot of mountain biking together in the area around our house. Larry was also doing a lot of road biking.

August Soccer started for Spencer. He was privileged to be on Clay Laucella's team. This was a great opportunity for Spencer to really learn some of soccer's intricacies.

August Our yearly family get together at our house didn't happen this year. Schedule problems.

July 15th - July 25th Our family San Juan Island sailing vacation. We flew up to Seattle and chartered a 33 foot Catalina 320 for a week to sail the San Juan Islands. We met up with the Stevens Family for a day of sailing. They were also vacationing in the Northwest during that week. This was an absolutely wonderful vacation. So wonderful that we are planning for it again next year. Only this time we're going for two weeks. See the vacation pages for pictures. While in the Seattle area we had the opportunity to hook up with our good friends the Bradfields while they were in Anacourtes for a soccer tournament.

July 20th We changed our cell phones 831 area code numbers. This may not seem like much but it caused some disruption.

Early Summer Jack and Larry put together a new bike for Jack. It's off a SuperGo Weyless frame. We add Z1 Dropoff 2 Fork and a bunch of other sturdy stuff. Jack needed this bike because of his crazy habit of jumping off high things.

Late Spring Donna, Jack and Spencer can all breath a sigh of relief after finishing another year of school.

Late Spring

Spencer's baseball team (the Colorado Rockies) win the Scotts Valley AAA playoffs then go on to beat all the other league champions at the Tournament of Champions playoffs to become the TOC district 39 champions. It was a hard fought tournament with the Rockies being in single elimination after losing to Capitola/Soquel in the first game.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ROCKIES ON WINNING THE MINORS'S (AAA) TOC TOURNAMENT! DISTRICT 39 TOC CHAMPIONS!!!

Late Spring Jack completes another year at Scotts Valley Middle School. We are very pleased with him for working so hard and achieving such a wonderful academic record.

Late May Larry spends a week in the San Juan Islands at the San Juan Island sailing school Learn'n'Cruise class. He receives his ASA Bareboat certificate which allows him to charter sailboats up to 50' in length. This will come in handy for our vacation in July.

Late Winter Spencer joins the Rockies AAA baseball team... practices begin. There is much rejoicing. We feel grateful that Spencer gets Bob Stevens and Jim Iffland as his coaches.

March 5th Larry has shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff.

January 2nd Went to the pound and picked out Heddi. She was a replacement kitty for the much beloved "Nibbles" who disappeared mysteriously in early Fall of 2003. Unfortunately Heddi has turned out to be a tempermental, unpredictable, fat cat... a loveable ball of blubber one minute and a hissing demon the next.
