3rd Day - To Pender Harbor

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

After a long windy night in a sketchy anchorage we awoke to a new day. We wanted to get an early start to get as
far across the Strait of Georgia as possible before the wind came up. Unfortunately, the wind was already up. So there
was nothing to do about it but get underway and make the best we could of the situation. It was a very bumpy and wet
crossing. Donna medicated everyone with motion sickness medication. But while this protected everyone from being
sick, it also made them drowsy. This was good for me because soon everyone was asleep and I wouldn't feel so guilty
about subjecting them to the pounding. After about three hours, the worst of the beating was over and we were coming
up to Welcome Passage to shelter us from the wind and waves. Then from there it was a short distance to Pender Harbor,
where we could take refuge and refuel. We also restocked for the days that we would be in the Princess Louisa Inlet area.
After all this, we tied up to a slip in the Sportsman's Marina for the night. I was able to wash the salt off the top of the boat
and generally put things back in order after our passage.

Good morning Jack
Good morning Spencer

After a scary time pulling up the anchor (lots of wind), we're underway. Jack checking out the Nanaimo sky line.
Looking back at our anchorage. You can see that it was blowing at least 15 and it was puffy. But we got out of there without any incidents.

And the rough stuff begins. Thank goodness for the dodger. Apparently there was a low pressure trough passing through. Texada Island off to the left.
Jack jumping below decks as the boat bucked around. He was trying to jump just as the boat reached the top of a wave and would go down again. Sometimes he'd fly all the way to the cabin top. This must have been before the motion sickness drugs took effect.

Texada Island... Malaspina Strait on the right. It doesn't look very bumpy in this picture but trust me... it was.
