San Juan Island Learn'n'Cruise trip
with Mona and Andy

This was a trip that Larry took to the San Juan Islands in May of 2004 to get his bareboat charter certificate. It consisted of a week of cruising in the San Juan Islands on the Catalina 320 Antares under the watchful eyes of an instructor (the guy in the yellow windbreaker - Dick). Larry wanted to do this in preparation for taking the family cruising later in the year. Even though Larry has been sailing for years he found this experience to be well worth the time and money. He called it finishing school. It gave him some additional familiarity with the San Juans as well as providing him with a different perspective of sailing. Larry's primary focus in sailing has been racing. In a way it was a rehearsal for the trip in July with the family. In addition, he had the pleasure to meet and cruise with Mona and Andy who were his fellow students on the boat. They were a lot of fun and Larry thought these folks were people with whom he could easily become friends.

It was typical Spring weather for the San Juans which meant fog, sunshine, rain and uncertainty. Larry really enjoyed all this as he is from the Northwest and these conditions are the routine in Spring time.

After sailing he took the opportunity to spend some time with Eric and Leslie Bradfield and their two daughters Erin and Kelsey. The Bradfields live south of Seattle in Kent. Larry hadn't seen them in ages so this was a great opportunity.
