Return Through the Gulf Islands

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

After Princess Louisa Inlet, we planned to take a leisurely cruise back through the Gulf Islands. Other than that, we had no plan except to have the boat back by the 29th of July. After passing back through the inlets to Pender Harbor, we reprovisioned (for what we hoped would be the last time) and overnighted before starting back across the Strait of Georgia. Here I had one of the great disappointments of the trip when we didn't get the wind coming from the north such that we would have this screaming reach back to Nanaimo. We ended up motoring to where the wind had clocked around to a direction where we could barely sail in extreme point mode. But then we passed through Dodd Narrows to reenter the Gulf Islands.

Our first stop ended up being for two days in Whaleboat Cove. This was a tiny little anchorage that we made into one of the most fun stops of the whole vacation. We were reluctant to leave. Next stop was Maple Bay where we did some laundry and refueled. After that we rounded the bottom of Salt Spring Island and headed for Prevost Island where we expected to find some nice coves to explore. We spent two days in Selby Cove. Not as fun as Whaleboat Cove but it was pleasant. Time was growing short. Only a couple days left. Next stop was Sydney Spit. That felt like we were getting back into civilization. Not really a great feeling after where we'd been. Then... it was time to get back to the U.S. with a quick spin through the San Juan Islands to overnight in Chuckanut Bay. Next day it was time to return the boat. Sigh... I guess it had to happen sometime.
